The Flipped Classroom
The flipped classroom makes sense for a lot of reasons.
The general idea behind a flipped classroom puts the onus of learning on the students in their own time. The easier to digest information can be learned by the students on their own time, leaving more time in the classroom for the more difficult areas of study, areas of weakness, and the homework that would traditionally be done at home.
This video highlights 4 benefits of a flipped classroom:
- It allows all the students to learn at their own pace – Since the study material is available to all the students to review or look over as many times as they need for the material to make sense, no one will be left behind due to time constraints of in classroom learning.
- It’s more efficient – Students have already covered the material being discussed, so we can get right into the meat and potatoes of the subject, reviewing material that didn’t make sense.
- It enriches the lesson – Not having to go through an entire lecture leaves more class time for group projects, or shop time working hands on.
- Doing homework in class allows students to help each other – Some students are going to excel at certain subjects, while others are going to excel in different areas. This freed up time can be used for students to help each other learn from different points of view while completing homework.
